The group–Chris Gallego, Jeremy Ortiz, Jakub Ausobsky, and Michael Lucio–recently released its latest single, “The Flow” (which you can hear via […]

May 27th, 2016 · No Comments
There was a time, nearly 30 (!) years ago, when I was a member of the Violent Femmes fan club. With my membership came two prized possessions during the latter half of my high school days: a “Gimme The Car” bumper sticker (which resided in the back window of my Oldsmobuick) and a T-shirt with […]

Free Press Summer Festival preview: Scale the Summit
June 5th, 2015 · 1 Comment
Scale the Summit is a band that seems to sometimes fly under the radar locally, mainly because they get so much exposure outside of Houston. Having played with such respected bands as Dream Theater, Protest the Hero, Between the Buried and Me, and many more, the prog-rock group has built a sizable international fan base […]

Ellis returns to Houston to play Free Press […]

Free Press Summer Festival preview: Band of Horses
June 2nd, 2015 · No Comments
Band of Horses is one of the many stripped-down, countrified rock bands out today, but the band is near the top of the pack and an excellent additional to this year’s Free Press Summer Fest line-up. The group’s early releases are undoubtedly its best, however 2014’s live release, Acoustic At The Ryman, shows not only […]

Free Press Summer Festival preview: Tears for Fears
May 30th, 2015 · No Comments
Tears for Fears is a great surprise on this year’s Free Press Summer Festival line-up. I still remember listening to the band’s cassettes on my knock-off Walkman while walking to and from high school. “Pale Shelter” ranks high among my favorites, but “Head Over Heels” is up there as well. The group was huge in […]
