John Evans, Southern Backtones play Star of Hope benefit at Hard Rock Cafe

Details: Thursday, 1.31.08, doors at 6pm/show starts at 6:30pm. Two-time Best of the Best Top of the Rock event featuring John Evans and Southern Backtones Apparently, one of Jimi Hendrix’s guitars will be on display. There’s also a raffle (prizes include concert tickets, HRC swag, museum tickets, and Texans tickets). $5 suggested donation at door.

Tonight (Saturday, 1.26.08), The Proletariat hosts Sole and the Skyrider Band (whose CD is pretty good — definitely a cool take on hip hop, with live instruments), along with Telephone Jim Jesus and Giant Princess. I recommend checking them out. Watch this docu-video of the band.

dUNETX tonight at The Continental Club

Tonight (Friday, 1.25.08), dUNETX play their first show of the year with Dash Rip Rock at The Continental Club (3700 Main). Show time is 10pm. The band reportedly will be trying out a few new songs, including “Shine On,” which is influenced by bands like The Jesus & Mary Chain and Gish-era Smashing Pumpkins.
