I recently got the Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears album, Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is, which was released on Lost Highway earlier this year. While looking through the packaging, I noticed a familiar face: former Houston musician (and Drop Trio keyboardist) Ian Varley. I ran into Varley in Austin during South By Southwest and he confirmed he’s been playing and touring with Lewis.

In the most recent issue of SPIN, there’s a full-page article on the band, complete with a photo that includes Varley.

In Drop Trio news, the band plays in Houston at Avant Garden on May 1st. Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears plays at Walter’s on May 7th, with Lucero.
