Houston Calling

The week in Houston rock

November 27th, 2006 · No Comments

Hope everyone had a good holiday. Back to the grind before the next one. But in between, there’s plenty of music around town.

Tonight at The Proletariat, Djs Cool Tapes and Mr. Castillo spin for your pleasure. Check it out.

Wolfmother, the Australian butt-rockers, bring their Sabbath/Styx/Doors blend to The Meridian on Tuesday (11.28.06). Silversun Pickups, a band everyone but me seems to love (although I’ll admit they’re great live), and Dead Meadow (who I am told not to miss) open the show.

Wednesday (11.29.06) is Commune Music at The Proletariat, which features great local music, including Bright Men of Learning, Lomita, and Casino. Please come out and show your support.

Death Cab For Cutie and OK Go play at Hobby Center’s Sarofim Hall on Thursday, 11.30.06. It’s sold out, of course. Go check out Indian Jewelry, with The Kimonos, A Pink Cloud, and Inoculist at Walter’s on Washington instead.

On Friday, Hayes Carll returns to Houston to play the Mucky Duck. This will be a great show. His new release should be out in 2007 on Lost Highway Records.

There’s A LOT going on Saturday night. Southern Backtones play Notsuoh, Spain Colored Orange opens for Mates of State and Asobi Seksu at Numbers, and UME returns to town with Parts & Labor and The Skullening at The Proletariat. Last, but not least, Richard Fearless (from Death in Vegas) djs at The Mink’s Backroom for The Mink’s one-year anniversary party–should be a good time.
