July 15th, 2006 · No Comments

Tonight (Saturday, 7.15.06), Houston’s own God’s Temple Of Family Deliverance opens for Blue Cheer and The Black Angels at Walter’s On Washington. Doors @ 8pm. Show starts @ 9pm. $15 tickets from SuperUnison or at the door.

From SuperUnison.com:

BLUE CHEER
Hard-rock and heavy-metal were born in 1968 thanks to the efforts of a trio who relocated to San Francisco. In that year Blue Cheer released two albums with a terrifying sound that staked it all on deafening amplification of the guitar riffs of Leigh Stephens and the bass riffs Dickie Peterson. The group belonged to the psychedelic platoon (“blue cheer” was a name for LSD) and played out its acid trip with a vengeance. Their atomic version of Summertime Blues (1968) by Eddie Cochran, followed by the anthem Out Of Focus (1968), made them famous.

THE BLACK ANGELS
These are fighting times, people. We are surrounded by grit, spit, and bloody war, but in the distance moving forward is The Black Angels. They’ve returned unscathed from their first tour of duty with Seattle-based Light In The Attic Records, still armed with their self-proclaimed “Native American Drone ‘N’ Roll” and set to release their debut long player. Passover speaks of real-life horrors, death, and destruction with doses of love, sex, and healing. Don’t lose track, these are caring times as well.
