Cactus Music’s grand re-opening tonight, featuring Steve Harris’ Texas Troubadours photos

February 22nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

If you saw the March 2007 issue of Envy magazine, you may remember an article I wrote about local photographer Steve Harris and his book, Texas Troubadours, which was published by The University Of Texas Press last year. This is amazing work–you have to see it to believe how cool it actually is.

Tonight (Friday, 2.22.08), Cactus Music celebrates its official grand re-opening with an art show of Harris’ work from Texas Troubadours inside the store at the Record Ranch Gallery. There will be a live DJ and free refreshments from 7-10pm. Bring extra money for a copy of the book–you won’t regret it.

More info:

As a Texas music fan and as a house photographer at Houston’s Rockefeller’s nightclub, Harris has spent many years documenting live shows since the 1980s and has had access to many musicians all over the state. Using this and nothing more than a 4×5 camera, he set out to create tight, intimate portraits collected along with hand-written quotes from the musicians themselves that would embody a “who’s who” list of Texas musicians.

Hope you can make it. It really is a beautiful book. More info on the book can be found here.
