Many of you have probably heard by now that Houston musician Tom Carter was hospitalized with pneumonia while on tour in Europe this summer with Charalambides. Complications arose and he was in a coma for weeks. In early July, Carter was transferred to a medical rehabilitation facility in Germany, where he received medical care, monitoring, and physical rehabilitation until his return to New York earlier this month.

Because of the expenses associated with his recovery, The Robert Thomas Carter Irrevocable Trust has been set up to take donations.

Concerned Houston musicians are putting together three local benefit shows for Tom. Sandy Ewen (Weird Weeds), John Cramer (Project Grimm, The Mike Gunn) and Ramon Medina (Linus Pauling Quartet (LP4)) have organized a show at Rudyard’s this Friday night (8.24.12) that includes Hearts of Animals, Dead Mineral, LP4, and Project Grimm. Doors open at 9pm and the music starts at 10pm. There is a $10 suggested donation, which will go to the Trust.

There is another benefit show this Saturday night (8.25.12) at The Railyard (2220 Commerce St., Unit D), from 8-11pm, which Jonathan Jindra (Binarium) has organized. This show features experimental musicians Sandy Ewen & Damon Smith, noise duo Richard Ramirez & Brian Traylor (night at noon), FLCON FCKER (live handmade electronics interfaced with laptop), A Week of Kindness (Sean E. Matzus), and solo guitar from Eric Todd. Cover is $5.

David Dove (via Nameless Sound) is planning a third event in September. No solid information at this time, but rumor has it that Jandek is one of the confirmed performers.
