Advance Warning: Greg Ginn and The Royal We plays Super Happy Fun Land

August 2nd, 2012 · No Comments

When I was 15 or so, I met a guy who had just transferred to my high school from California and sold me a Black Flag cassette tape for $5. It was In My Head, and I still own it. The album holds a special place in my heart, as it introduced me to a type of music I had never heard (and am not sure at what point I would have given the bubble I lived in at the time). I probably prefer Everything Went Black over all other Black Flag albums, but I digress…

Musician (and Texan) Greg Ginn, founder of SST Records–and Black Flag member–plays in Houston on Friday, 8.17.12, at Super Happy Fun Land, with his latest project The Royal We.

Here’s what Ginn has to say about The Royal We:

“I try to play what I would like to hear,” Greg Ginn explains the electronica sound of his latest project, The Royal We. “If it feels good to me then there’s other people that might enjoy it. Everybody isn’t in the same place at the same time.”

Greg Ginn is an innovator. “I like a lot of hybrid bands. Different trance, electronica, and a lot of House. Most of that music doesn’t have guitar. And that’s had a lot of impact on my guitar.”
