The Mathletes’ Excalibur LP release show this Saturday

August 9th, 2011 · No Comments

The Mathletes return this month with Excalibur, a limited-edition, vinyl-only release (with digital download included) that comes with a bizarrely impressive and entertaining 24-page zine. To celebrate the release, the band is hosting a release show at Fitzgerald’s this Saturday night (8.13.11). For a mere $5, you get a ton of great (mostly) local music.

That’s:
Giant Princess vs. Babyshowers
Keith Reynolds vs. The Sparkle Ponies
Hearts of Animals vs. Christopher Cascio and the Wit Strips
Fishboy (Denton) vs. Kanye West (Chicago)
B L A C K I E vs. The Wiggins
The Mathletes vs. The Mathletes

More information on the band–aka musician Joe Mathlete and a Who’s Who of the Houston indie scene–may be found at www.themathletes.com.

Here’s some info from Joe Mathlete himself: (after the jump)…

The Mathletes are coming out with a new album called Excalibur. It’s a “real” album (not a CD-R or tape or bunch of mp3s), so I’ve been asked by the locals who run Homeskool Records to promote it some. This is part of that. We’re doing a record release show on August 13th at Fitzgerald’s I’m hoping will be a big enough thing. I asked lots of my favorite people to play and do “versus” sets; two bands setting up at once and then either trading off songs, collaborating, maybe they’ll actually fistfight but probably not. This practice, the “versus” (or “cockfight” show), has its roots in other things that other people have done.
