I first met Houston musician Robert Ellis when I was the “audience of one” for episode 8 of Live From Sugar Hill. I was already a fan, having digested Ellis’ The Great Rearranger and catching several live performances. We talked briefly about local music and clubs after his set performing with Chase Hamblin, and I have kept an eye on him since.
Big things have been happening for Ellis lately, most recently a write-up in American Songwriter–along with the inclusion on a CMT digital sampler, The Country Way Digital Vol. 2–an opening spot on tour with fellow Texans the Old 97s, and a record deal with respected label New West Records (also home to locals Buxton and Wild Moccasins).
