Houston Calling

Free Press Summer Fest preview: Killing Joke

May 24th, 2011 · 6 Comments

Killing Joke is a band that I, like a lot of people my age, first heard in the movie Weird Science (the song “Eighties,” of course). Night Time is one of my favorite albums from that era, and I still listen to it often. But Killing Joke, quite honestly, is a band I never paid much attention to otherwise. The band already had a number of albums by the time I first heard them circa 1985 (the band got its start in England in the late seventies), but to me, their work in the late eighties and early nineties–when they became better known in the U.S.–was overshadowed by other music I was just then discovering. Regardless, I was happy to see the band was among the bands playing this year’s Free Press Summer Fest, which is June 4-5, 2011, in Houston’s Eleanor Tinsley Park.

Hopefully the band will play this:

and this:

Awesome.

Killing Joke plays Free Press Summer Fest on Saturday, 6.4.11, at 3:40pm on the Budweiser stage. See you there.

KJ cancelled their US tour. They apparently won’t be playing at Summer Fest.

Are Killing Joke definitely still playing? I thought they’d cancelled their whole US tour… 🙁
