Mogwai
Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
Sub Pop
On its latest album, Scottish rockers Mogwai use the same sonic peaks and valleys formula for which the band is famous yet manages to sound as forward-thinking as always. The album is a wise progression for Mogwai, and the accessibility of “Mexico Grand Prix” and “Rano Pano” play well with the more familiar aspects of the album. The band employs what it always has in its studio music (and what makes Mogwai one of the genre’s finest): restraint. There could be filler tracks of time-wasting studio wankery or experimenting for the sake of experimenting, but thankfully Mogwai keeps it simple and in doing so creates an album that ranks among its best.

Mogwai returns to Houston tomorrow night (Tuesday, 5.17.11) to play at Warehouse Live. Tickets are available here.
Scottish band Errors opens the show.
