Houston Calling

SXSW preview: OMD

March 1st, 2011 · 1 Comment

English electro-pop band OMD (aka Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) are back with a new record (History Of Modern) and U.S. spring tour. In addition to a show at this year’s South By Southwest in Austin, the group plays Houston’s House of Blues on Wednesday, 3.16.11. While OMD never completely broke through in the U.S.–other than “If You Leave” from the Pretty In Pink soundtrack–the band undoubtedly created some great pop songs in its early days.

History of Modern is band’s 11th studio album, and its first since 1996. It is also the first album featuring the band’s original line-up since 1986’s The Pacific Age.

Here are a few videos from back in the day:

“Messages”

“So In Love”

“Enola Gay”

“If You Leave” (Pretty In Pink clips)

OMD plays its official SXSW showcase at Stubb’s on Friday, 3.18.11, at 1am. The band also plays Houston’s House of Blues on Wednesday, 3.16.11.
