Cactus Music in-store performances

February 1st, 2011 · 2 Comments

Here’s a list of upcoming free in-store performances at Cactus Music:
PJ Bond – Wednesday  2/2 @ 5:30pm
Black Numbers recording artist and singer-songwriter, PJ Bond is a hardworking fellow.  Heck, he spent an entire year on the road. Read about it here:http://yearofathousandroommates.com
Yann Tiersen – Friday 2/4 @ 6:30pm
This highly regarded French composer and musician is best known for his soundtrack to the award-winning film, Am’elie.  He has a well-received new album just out on Anti- label.  We worked hard to get this artist to our store and we’re thrilled that he can stop by to play some tunes. Please note the later start time.
Betty Soo – Saturday, 2/5 @ 1pm
Betty is really making a name for herself in the folk-pop world. We think her debut CD is a charmer and we’re sure that you’ll think so too.  This will be a full band performance.
Bob Livingston – Saturday, 2/5 @ 3pm
For decades, Bob Livingston has been shaping the sound of Texas music through his work with The Lost Gonzo Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Michael Martin Murphey, and many, many more. He’s played on some of the most celebrated albums of the genre.  Bob has crafted a solid body of work on his own and his new CD, Gypsy Alibi, is getting great reviews.
Gurf Morlix – Sunday, 2/6 @ 1pm
It is unusual that we schedule Sunday in-stores (let alone on the day of the Super Bowl), but when we couldn’t fit Gurf into our busy Saturday line-up, we had to make an exception. Gurf has produced more brilliant albums by fellow Texans than just about anyone. Count Car Wheels On a Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams and Broke Down by Slaid Cleaves on that list. The legendary Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records sent Gurf a note praising his work on Ray Wylie Hubbard’s Delirium Tremolos. That’s about as good as it gets. Gurf’s new disc is called Blaze Foley’s 113th Wet Dream and is a collection of 15 of Blaze Foley songs. It is also the companion piece to the brand new documentary about Blaze. Gurf’s last album was a staff fave, so we can’t wait to hear this one.
Van Wilks – Saturday, 2/12 @ 5PM
Soul Track Mind – Friday, 2/18 @ 5:30PM
STEADY BOY RECORDS SHOWCASE: Al Stahaley, Mitch Jacobs and Chase Hamblin – Saturday, 2/19 @ 1PM
Paris Falls – Saturday, 2/26 @ 1PM
Hayes Carll – Saturday, 3/5 @ tba
Franz Nicolai – Tuesday, 3/15 @ tba
Jesse Dayton – Saturday, 3/19 @ tba

I assume it will be open, but probably call them just in case. Weather doesn’t seem as bad as predicted…
