The Jonx, one of the Houston indie scene’s finest bands, is calling it quits. The band–bassist Trey Lavigne, drummer Danny Mee, and guitarist Stuart Smith–plays its final show tonight (Thursday, 10.14.10) at Walter’s with Black Congress, Shirtless Man Friend, and Landfill.

The reason for all this is that Trey is moving out of state for personal and family reasons. If I may presume to speak for Stu and Trey, I think we all still really love playing in the band, and although we’re billing this as our last show, I wouldn’t rule out the idea that we’ll play a one-off sometime in the future- hell, the Mike Gunn managed it- but given the fact that I don’t live in Houston anymore either, it doesn’t seem very likely that we’ll all be in the same place again long for long enough to pull it off. So this really may be your last chance to see the Jonx.

It’s a sad thing when a band breaks up. We’ve “lost” a lot of friends in the last few years; most of the bands that we used to play with in our first couple of years aren’t around anymore. But look, it’s not like they’re dead or something. We’ll still be around, we just won’t be in a band together anymore. And I think that the three of us (and Shawn and Viki) feel pretty lucky to have had the opportunity to create together, to make some records and to play some shows with and for our friends. At least I do.
