Free live music this week at Cactus Music, including Wild Moccasins

June 9th, 2010 · No Comments

It’s a busy post-Summer Fest week at Cactus Music. Here is this week’s schedule of free in-store performances:

Anne McCue – Wed 6/9 5:30pm
Aussie slide guitar maven brings some major chops to the Cactus stage before here gig at the Volcano. She is a troubadour and a brilliant player. The band on her new disc includes Bones Hillman from Midnight Oil and Ken Coomer (formerly of Wilco).

Sara Hickman – Fri 6/18 5:30pm
Sara will be stopping by to play a short set of songs from her brand new album, Absence of Blame, that will finally be available at retail this Friday. She’ll be performing at the Duck later that night. Look for her on the Cactus stage in July performing songs from her childrens albums.

Loreta Kovacic – Sat 6/12 10:30am
This is a children’s music concert featuring music from classical concert pianist Loreta Kovacic’s latest album, Brother Tadpole
Classics
. Wanna know what that’s all about…fun! Loreta recently presented a production of Brother Tadpole… at Discovery Green and it went over swimmingly.

Wild Moccasins – Sat 6/12 3pm
Wild Moccasins will perform in-store to celebrate the release of their new disc, Skin Collision Past. After logging a buncha miles in a tour van, surviving killer birds and thrilling the crowd at Summer Fest, they’re hitting the Cactus stage. The new CD is our best-selling local release of the year. We might even give Cactoid John Baldwin the afternoon off so that he can play drums.

Anders Osborne – Sat 6/12 5pm
We’re very excited to have one of New Orleans finest play an acoustic set at Cactus. His Alligator Records debut, American Patchwork, is a fine effort. Anders has come a long way and has established a unique style of his own. Check out his performances with Stanton Moore (of Galactic). This is going to be a groovy good time.

Janelle Mon’ae – Sun 6/13 2pm
We seriously can’t believe that we snagged this one, but you ask, and occasionally you receive. Janelle Mon’ae is simply headed for superstardom. That doesn’t usually rattle the Cactus cage, but we think she is one of the most talented young people making records today. Her sophomore release, The Archandroid, has elements of funk, soul, psychedelic rock, musical theater and film music and you simply can’t anticipate what is coming next. It is truly ambitious music that hits the mark. Who else kicks off their career with two concept albums?!?! Her live performances are electrifying and we are proud to present a rare acoustic performance. I promise that you will be sad if you miss this one. Maybe not now, but soon enough. Check out her and her band performing “Tightrope” on David Letterman.

See you there.
