Houston Calling

Your holiday weekend in Houston rock: Red Sparowes, The Manichean, Andrew Karnavas & Nick Gaitan, John Evans, Beans Barton, and more

April 2nd, 2010 · No Comments

Happy Good Friday. Tonight (4.2.10), there are a lot of good shows happening around town. First of all, The Manichean–whose set I caught at last year’s Free Press SummerFest–celebrates its EP release with a show at Mango’s that includes Peekaboo Theory, Tax The Wolf, and B L A C K I E. Impressive line-up, and a sure-to-be-packed show.

Also tonight, Fiskadoro–which is rumored to be heading into the studio soon to lay down tracks for a vinyl release (!)–plays at Super Happy Fun Land with PONG (from Austin) and New Orleans’ One Man Machine & The Powers That Be. Umbrella Man Nick Gaitan and Runaway Sun’s Andrew Karnavas play a special acoustic set at Rudyard’s, and long-time Houston rockabilly staple John Evans plays The Armadillo Palace.

On Saturday night, Mike Stinson plays at The Continental Club with Southern Culture on the Skids. Red Sparowes returns to Rudyard’s with Doomriders and Austin’s My Education. Sad Gorilla, Ellis and Hart, Possessed by Paul James, Airon Paul Dugas, and Cory Derden play Mango’s, which should be an interesting show. Also, Beans Barton & The Bi-Peds plays Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar, and duneTX’s Chris Sacco plays The Big Top. And, Metavenge plays at BFE Rock Club (formerly FBI Rocks, 11528 Jones Rd., near 1960) with Azrael’s Bane and Legion.

Check out a comprehensive list of some of the other shows going on around town this weekend at Space City Rock.
