The week in Houston rock

September 15th, 2009 · No Comments

On Wednesday (9.16.09), Two Star Symphony–who are featured in the latest episode of Live From SugarHill (the episode with TSS and Chase Hamblin should be available by end of the week)–play The Mink with Chin Xaou Ti Won. Having recently seen the band up close and personal, I’ll be the first to admit to the group’s mesmerizing performance.

Also on Wednesday, Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam opens for Chickenfoot at Verizon Wireless Theater downtown. And, Jason Mraz plays with G Love & Special Sauce and Bushwalla at The Woodlands Pavilion.

On Thursday (9.17.09), The Mars Volta removes the Chickenfoot stench from the Verizon Wireless Theater, and the Kashmere Reunion Stage Band and Joe Carmouche play at Discovery Green.

Also on Thursday, The Wonderful Future celebrates the release of its new EP at Rocbar with The 71’s and Charlie Hardin.

Friday night (9.18.09) sees a couple of great local new releases. Mango’s hosts listenlisten’s CD release show, with I am Mesmer, Sew What, and Peter and the Wolf. listenlisten also plays at Cactus Music on Saturday (9.19.09, 1pm).

Also on Friday is Bright Men of Learning’s EP release show at Rudyard’s, with The Jonx, Side Arms, and DJ ADR. The band’s three-song EP will be available for $2 and cover to the show is a mere $3–can’t beat it.

On Saturday, Muhammadali plays at Mango’s with Leg Sweeper, Electric Courage Machine, and A Giant Dog.

Also on Saturday, DJ Andy Rourke spins at Numbers, and The Mink hosts HYPE!, featuring GRRRL Parts.

Have a great week.
