Mama, Donde Esta Mis Zapatos? release Instant Classics

Houston’s Mama, Donde Esta Mis Zapatos?, a Spanish-language band, releases its debut album, Instant Classics, with a show this Friday night (8.14.09) at the “5th Annual Summer Formal” (White Whisper Ct. in The Woodlands).

Here’s what the band has to say about itself:

Forget Charo. Mama, Donde Esta Mis Zapatos? has done more for the Spanish language — and with less knowledge of it — than the crazy old bat and Enrique combined. Born in 1988 and born again as MDEMZ? in 2004, Matt Glenn (vocals, guitar, bass, drums) and Joey Vergara (vocals, guitar, bass) have combined ambition, humor and a few carefully placed Colombian flags to form a band as serious as it is fun. Formed in Houston, TX, Glenn and Vergara set their sights on originality early on — pulling from a list of genres that span different sides of the soundscape without imitating any specific artists. The duo is at its best when at its most spontaneous.

This formula has held its own at live shows, where the band has played both in Houston and across regional tours in Joker costumes, cowboy garb, clown suits and dresses. While playing a church show in 2008, Vergara took that dress off — and gyrated. In front of a cross. Although always spontaneous, their best and their worst is sometimes very similar. No venue is sacred…
