Houston indie rock trio Paris Falls releases its new CD, Volume III, with a show at Mango’s this Saturday (6.20.09). While similar to the band’s earlier volumes, it sounds like Paris Falls has lately been listening more to Meddle-era Pink Floyd and ELO than the late 60s summery pop that permeates its previous work. Volume III is a mostly mellow album that further expands the band’s mixture of raw indie rock and its ever-present classic rock influence. While vocally off at times (most evident on “Obsolete”), the band–Raymond and Jen Brown, with drummer Mikey DeLeon–hones its melodies and instrumental jams to stripped-down perfection.

“Good Morning” continues to display the band’s Beatles fixation, but the differences among stunners like “Delay,” “Status Clinger”–which gives off a faint, early Chicago vibe–and the wonderfully melodic “Verse Chorus” and “Hypocrite” (whose guitar solo and harmonies are fantastic without being bombastic) show that Paris Falls has the range to create powerful, original music without compromising or completely imitating its influences.

Airon Paul Dugas & The Religion and Georgia’s Horse are also on the bill.

Cover is $5 and includes a copy of the CD. You can find out more about Paris Falls on MySpace.
