Thievery Corporation @ House Of Blues

Thievery Corporation
House of Blues, Friday (10.24.08)

It’s not unusual for a DJ to get people moving at shows–that’s their job, right? What’s most interesting about D.C. duo Thievery Corporation is that they utilize live instrumentation in their concerts. From guest singers to technically astute musicians, Rob Garza and Eric Hilton turn each live set into a world music-influenced lounge scene. If 2000’s The Mirror Conspiracy is the band’s high point, successive albums have only cemented the group’s legendary status among scenesters in search of the perfect blend of chilled-out bliss and electronica. On their new album, Radio Retaliation, Thievery Corporation continues the timely political theme that’s been the norm since The Cosmic Game and Richest Man in Babylon.

Thievery Corp plays at the new House of Blues downtown at the new Houston Pavilions at 9pm. Doors open at 8pm. There’s an after-party at the new Block 21 (located at 2420-B Washington Ave., next to what used to be Pig Stand).
