Sleepercar, Buxton at The Mink this Tuesday

El Paso band Sleepercar (Jim Ward of Sparta, At The Drive-In fame) comes to Houston this Tuesday (7.15.08) to play at The Mink with locals Buxton and Giant Princess. I first heard of the band earlier this year and caught one of their sets at South By Southwest. Sleepercar’s debut, West Texas, is one of my favorite albums of 2008 so far and I am happy to hear they’re playing Houston (and at what used to be one of my favorite places to go, no less — get rid of Stephen, will ya? That’ll show you…).

Anyway, I strongly urge you to come check out Sleepercar this Tuesday night–their music sometimes sounds like Sparta, of course, but West Texas is a definite alt-country album, with hints at times of The Replacements and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. I cannot recommend it enough.
