This Saturday (5.24.08), local musicians band together at The Meridian to help out a friend who is battling cancer. Molotov Compromise, LJ All Stars, Pretty Boys, The Tie That Binds, Spain Colored Orange, and 30ftFall are all scheduled to perform at the show.

More info:

“The Tie That Binds” has many meanings. Once the name of a post-punk band from Houston, those words now have special meaning, friendship and support, for that group’s drummer, Alex Arizpe.

Alex, 31, is battling cancer, and his musician friends are coming together Saturday, May 24, at the Meridian, 1503 Chartres, to put on a benefit and join him in his fight. All proceeds will go towards his medical bills. A native of Houston, Alex lives in Los Angeles.

30ftFall, the 14-year-old Bayou City group, will headline the event.

The original lineup of The Tie That Binds, minus Alex, will be part of the show. This group began in 1993 as Badger.

Al Shire, a Houstonian who now calls Austin home, is organizing this event for his long-time friend Alex and will welcome the early ‘90s crowd.

“This event is a special coming together of the members of The Tie That Binds and Pretty Boys,” says Shire, Wide Eyed Booking owner. “A primary musical feature in Houston in the early- to mid-1990s was punk with its many variations. Punk ruled!”

Set times are as follows: Molotov Compromise: 6:45, LJ All Stars: 7:30, Pretty Boys: 8:15, The Tie That Binds: 9:00, Spain Colored Orange: 9:45, and 30ftFall: 10:45.

Cover is $10.
