Houston Calling

The weekend in Houston rock

Tonight, The Mathletes play their supposedly last show. It’ll definitely be their last show at The Proletariat, which closes its doors soon. $5 cover.

Also tonight, Black Dog (a Led Zeppelin tribute band) play at Fitzgerald’s. Could be interesting.

Saturday afternoon is the much-heralded Saturday Secret Show at Shady’s Tavern in the Heights. Starts at noon, lasts until 5pm. Best of all, there’s music and it’s free.

On Saturday, Orange Is In–whose Come And Take It made my top 10 Houston favorites of 2007 list— play at Rudz with Lee Alexander and The Phlegmatics. Should be a good time. Showtime is 10pm.

Also on Saturday, Buxton celebrates the release of their new CD at Walter’s On Washington. The cover charge ($10?) gets you their new album, their older album, and an EP. By the End of Tonight, The Papermoons, and Ghost Mountain round out the bill.

Vallejo play at The Continental Club. School Boy Humor, One Star Story, betterLUCK, The Courtesy Clerks, and The Blue Poptarts play in Spring at Javajazz Coffee House. Also, fight fire with fire with Kansas at the Stafford Centre (in Stafford, obviously).

On Sunday, MGMT and Yeasayer play at Walter’s. This should be a good one. Tickets here.

Cover at the Buxton show will be $12.

Also, the Rogue River String Band (a bluegrass/newgrass group from Austin) will be playing at Mojo Rising Coffee House on Saturday night.
