Lanky plays The Corkscrew tonight

October 1st, 2007 · No Comments

Local musician Lanky performs two sets tonight (one at 8:30pm and one at 10pm) at The Corkscrew, which is a wine bar located at 1919 Washington Ave. near downtown. No cover.

I caught Lanky’s monthly “Listen Up, Ya’ll” show this past Friday night at Rudyards. This is Lanky’s songwriter-in-the-round thing, and his guests on Friday were Tody Castillo and Hank Schyma (of Southern Backtones). Schyma’s stylistic range and sense of humor, Lanky’s lovelorn pop songs, and Castillo’s self-described “dark” new material — along with the onstage banter between the three musicians — made it a fantastic experience.

Where else but Houston can you find three of the city’s finest songwriters in one place on a Friday night playing to a room barely half-packed? If that…
