Houston Calling

The post-vacation week in Houston rock

June 18th, 2007 · No Comments

I am back from my Griswold-esque European vacation. More on that later. On with this week’s shows around Houston.

Tonight (Monday, 6.18.07), Two Gallants returns to the scene of the HPD debacle (Walter’s) with Trainwreck Riders. This will be packed, I’m sure. More info at www.superunison.com.

Also tonight, Houston’s own Paul Wall plays at The Woodlands with Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is, Cobra Starship, and +44. Why do I want to go to this? Curiosity killed the cat, right?

On Wednesday, All Smiles (for you Grandaddy fans) opens for Menomena at Walter’s. Also on Wednesday, The Proletariat hosts Commune Music, which features Vince Dynamic, Cory Derden, Sabra Laval, Gretchen Schmaltz, and Miss Celia.

At The Mink’s Backroom on Thursday, The Scattered Pages and Two Star Symphony play. Should be a good show. Also on Thursday, The Mighty Orq plays at Rudyards with The Nick Diaz Experiment. It’s been a while since I have seen Orq so I’ll probably pick this one.

Saturday night is the Hometown Showdown II, which features a good line-up on local music. This showdown includes Paris Green, Studemont Project, Million Year Dance, Deus Machina, Peekaboo Theory, Nothing More, Midnight Pilots, and Leaf. Tickets from Warehouse Live.

Also on Saturday, Sharks and Sailors open for Battles at Numbers. Ponytail is also on the bill. And, The Hunger plays in Clear Lake at Scout Bar.

Last but not least, Australian rock band Wolfmother plays at Warehouse Live. After their last show here at The Meridian and the horrid experience I had with members of the crowd, I vowed not to go see them again. We’ll see.
