Houston Calling

The soggy week in Houston rock

May 28th, 2007 · No Comments

There’s a lot of good shows around town this week.

Tonight (Monday, 5.28.07), Morrissey plays the Verizon with Kristeen Young. This will undoubtedly be a great show — I have a copy of his live DVD from a couple of years back [read my review of it here] and he still puts on a good performance. I believe this tour is a “greatest hits” thing, so maybe he’ll whip out some old stuff by The Smiths. Amazingly, tickets are still available, but I assume that will change as the day goes on.

Also tonight, El-P plays Numbers with Mr. Dibbs, The Mighty Quin, Hangar 18, Yak Ballz, and Slow Suicide Stimulus. Tickets at SuperUnison.com.

On Wednesday, there’s another free show at Warehouse Live. This time, it’s GZA The Genius (from Wu Tang Clan), Fyre Department, and DJ Klever. You must RSVP to get into the show, which is sponsored by Scion.

On Thursday, I recommend heading to Numbers to check out Penny Royal, Ceeplus and the House of Bad Knives, and Two Star Symphony. Quite the mixture of styles there, and it will be good to see.

On Friday, By the End of Tonight returns to Walter’s with Nathan Kalish and the Wildfire, The Riff Tiffs, Buxton, O Pioneers!!!, and Blades. Also, Something Fierce, Bring Back The Guns, and Target Market play a happy hour show at The Proletariat.
