Matt Hammon gets new drumming gig w/ The Damnwells

May 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I just found out that local musician Matt Hammon is now the drummer for Brooklyn-based The Damnwells. Since he’s married to Damnwells frontman Alex Dezen’s sister, musician Cameron Dezen, this probably makes a lot of sense.

Not only is he a genuinely nice guy (he got me the gig at Envy), Hammon’s resume is pretty extensive–he’s played with Bob Mould, David Garza, The Gloria Record, David Rice, Mando Saenz, Verbow, Cary Pierce, and Brandon Staley.

You can read my review of the documentary about The Damnwells, Golden Days, in the May issue of Envy magazine.

You can get your copy of Air Stereo, the latest album by The Damnwells, at amazon.com.

Holy crap. What a small world. I love the new Damnwells but had no idea she was the singer’s sister. I met Matt years ago when he played with David Rice and they were recording right across the hall from us. Great drummer.
