I was checking out Bright Men Of Learning’s blog and learned they have started recording songs for their next album, Air & Electric. Can’t wait to hear it.

I also saw a post about BMOL joining the growing list of members of the Virb community, which I found interesting enough to finally check out. Here’s what they have to say about the site:

For musicians and musical organizations (e.g., record labels, music magazines/blogs), the advantages are similar, but I want to highlight two key features. First, we’re able to offer our listeners streaming audio of everything we’ve recorded. Not just four songs like Myspace, but everything. And you can view our songs in an integrated player, switching among our records.

We can also offer selected songs as free downloads. For example, you can download four songs from our latest record for free. And, for a limited time, we’re offering our entire first record, Kicker Wisdom, for free. It includes a non-album remix of “Out Loud.” Our Great Breakfast EP is also available for free. All together, you can download 19 tracks spanning three different recordings.

For those who haven’t heard of Virb, think of it as a much more user-friendly MySpace. I found about the site recently but didn’t bother to check into it. I’ve now surfed around it and am impressed — the site has a nicer design (actually it has design, which is more than MySpace can claim) and allows users to listen and download a lot more music than most MySpace pages. Hopefully musicians will begin making the shift and it doesn’t become yet another horrid waste of time and wasteland of people trolling for skank.

Of course, I rarely check the Houston Calling MySpace site as it is so I’m not sold on taking the time to do anything on there, but feel free to check it out.

At the very least, visit Bright Men Of Music on Virb and branch out from there. Oh yeah, Dan’s (CoolTapes) is on there…I see him everywhere.
