Aurora Picture Show hosts media events this weekend

April 20th, 2007 · No Comments

There’s an interesting music and art festival going on this weekend, sponsored by Aurora Picture Show.

Tonight (Friday, 4.20.07), Domy Bookstore (1709 Westheimer) hosts Dynasty Handbag and Nautical Almanac.

Born out of the San Francisco experimental rock scene, Dynasty Handbag is the one woman/portable/electro/performance/music vehicle created and executed by “crackpot genius” (Village Voice) Jibz Cameron. Nautical Almanac is the duo of Baltimore-based artists Carly Ptak and Twig Harper. By breaking apart amateur electronic devices, guitar pedals, stereo components, and children’s toys, the two have created an arsenal of original musical instruments, from which they generate their explosive and genre-defying sound. Visuals by Mighty Robot.

On Saturday evening (4.21.07), Tristan Perich and Quintron and Miss Pussycat play the Orange Show (2402 Munger St.).

Tristan Perich’s 1-Bit Music project harnesses the most basic form of digital sound to complex, electrifying effect. Direct from the 9th ward of New Orleans, organ player and inventor Mr. Quintron, along with his partner-in-crime, Miss Pussycat, deliver a frenzied musical experience featuring “swamp tech” beats played on the Drum Buddy with boogie woogie basses and puppet theater. Visuals by Mighty Robot.

New York’s Nick Hallett is curating the events. Both shows begin at 8:30pm. Tickets are available here.
