Music for you: Midnight Movies / Mando Diao / The Bastards Of Jazz

April 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Here’s some stuff I’ve been listening to lately. I suggest checking these bands out.

Midnight Movies, Lion The Girl [website]

This L.A.-based band has that same Stereolab-meets-Joy Division thing that a lot of modern bands have but their brand works better than most. I have the CD and it’s been in steady rotation lately.
Track to DL: “Patient Eye”

Mando Diao, Ode To Ochrasy [website]

I couldn’t get enough of these guys at this year’s SXSW. First I’d heard of them but this is their 3rd album or so. See my review of it in the April issue of Envy.
Track to DL: “The Wildlife (If It Was True)”

The Bastards Of Jazz, Bastardos [website]

My wife got me into jazz in the late 90s and I’ve remained a fan — collecting, searching, and trying my best to discover new music. Seattle’s The Bastards of Jazz do it well — if you’re a fan of jazz (not the elevator shite), just check them out. I wouldn’t steer you wrong.
