The Jonx with The Black Lips tonight at The Mink

March 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Go see The Black Lips. Bring earplugs, bring a raincoat or trashbag to keep the spit away (it is The Mink after all–pretty small, which is nice). Well, normally that would be nice but after seeing The Black Lips on Thursday at the Fader/Levi’s party in Austin during SXSW, I can honestly say watch out. It’s going to be a
madhouse and it is going to be a great concert experience.

As far as I know this year during SXSW, the Atlanta band didn’t beat each other up onstage and require 10 stitches to mend the head wound from the guitar bashing. Far from it at the show I saw: they made out onstage.

It’s worth checking out. I have heard good things about their records, but haven’t yet picked one up. The Black Lips have two records out on Bomp! and one on garage leaders In the Red. They just released a live album, recorded live in Tijuana by John Reis of Drive Like Jehu and Rocket from the Crypt–although rumor has it it’s not really a true live album because the show was so crazy they had to re-record stuff. Not sure about that, but I heard it this week during SXSW. My apologies to the band if that’s false.

Needless to say, The Jonx will rock it. If you haven’t yet, pick up their new album No Turn Jonx Red.

Deerhunter is also playing this show. They recently released their second record, Cryptograms, which Jonx drummer (and all around good guy) Danny Mee reviewed on snogfever.com.

The Mink is located on Main St. at Alabama, two doors down from the Continental Club in the same building.
