Houston Calling

The week in Houston rock

October 3rd, 2006 · 2 Comments

Tonight (Tuesday, 10.3.06), is the new weekly Tuesday Night Music Club, an open mic and networking gathering for musicians and anyone that wants to get better acquainted with the local music scene and various creative outlets. This takes place each Tuesday night at Cosmos (Washington Ave. @ Heights).

On Friday night (10.6.06), there is a great line-up at Engine Room for The Ragged Hearts CD release show. Arthur Yoria and Tody Castillo are both on the bill as well, which makes this a must-see show. Seriously.

Also, The Scattered Pages play Rudyard’s on Friday night if all their various injuries are healed. If I hear differently, I’ll keep you posted.

Saturday night, Buckley plays with The Eames Era, .belville, and Tamara Booth at The Proletariat. This will be good as well.

This Sunday (10.8.06) is 94.5FM’s Buzzfest at The Woodlands. This year’s line-up features Alice in Chains, StoneSour, Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold, Everclear, Crossfade, Evans Blue (featured in this month’s Envy magazine), The Panic Channel, Lost Prophets, OK Go, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Boys Like Girls, Hurt, & Eighteen Visions out at The Woodlands.

Or, check out Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Ex-Models at Warehouse Live on Sunday night.

Just to correct you regarding the weekly Tues. night event at Cosmos Cafe. It is called The Bayou City Showcase, an acoustic open mic format showcase open to all musicians, poets and performance artists (no comedians). It has been successfully running for about three years at the Cosmos Cafe. Sign-ups begin at 7pm (in person; first come- first serve). Showtime: 8pm-1am. Recently Logan Bosemer has taken over bartending during the event and has invited members of the Houston Musicians Roundtable to convene and participate.I have been the host of The Bayou City Showcase since it’s inception. There are no plans to change the name or format of the event. The addition of Logan and her friends from the Roundtable are a welcome addition to our family of musicians and artists, and will hopefully be beneficial to all- participants and audience alike. Feel free to contact me for more info. Thanks, Mark Zeus
