Houston Calling

The week in Houston rock

September 18th, 2006 · 1 Comment

Besides The Damnwells show with DuneTX and Army of Me at The Monk on Tuesday (9.19.06), there are a number of other great shows around town this week.

Tonight (Monday, 9.18.06), Muse and The Like play at Verizon. I assume this will be a good show–I have heard Muse puts on a great show. Unfortunately, I cannot make it. I think the last time Muse was in town, they played on the U of H campus, so this should be a different show.

On Tuesday night, The Long Winters play with Austin’s What Made Milwaukee Famous at Walter’s on Washington. I really wish I could make both The Damnwells and this show. I wonder if I can at least see WMMF first…

Also, on Tuesday, Kairos plays with T.E.F., Price Taggery, and Concrete Violin at Super Happy Fun Land. I’d like to see Kairos as well.

On Thursday, Lanky plays what is probably his last Houston show of 2006 at Rudyards. He’ll be recording new material and touring the east coast during the next couple of months. I, for one, cannot wait to hear his new stuff.

Friday night, Houston’s own Orange Is In and Lee Alexander play at Rudyards, and The Dimes open for French Kicks at Walter’s (with The Little Ones and So Many Dynamos). Also, Southern Backtones plat at Helios. The latest French Kicks album will probably make my best-of list, but all of these will be great shows–so flip a coin or something…

On Saturday, I suggest checking out The Contingency at Warehouse Live. Seriously. Check the August issue of Envy magazine for an article/interview on the band. Also, Casino plays at The Mink’s Backroom with The Ragged Hearts and The Prodigal’s Sons.

Saturday night is also The Proletariat’s Anniversary Party, which features Girl Talk, Witnes, Dayta, Damon Allen, DJ Hot Sauce, Dick Almighty, Witnes, and Dayta.

On Sunday, Art Brut–whose album I cannot stop listening to for some odd reason–open for We Are Scientists at Warehouse Live. The Spinto Band round out the bill.
