Houston Calling

The week in Houston rock

August 29th, 2006 · 1 Comment

There is definitely some great local music this Saturday night (9.2.06) — Luxurious Panthers at Walter’s, Something Fierce and The Blaggards at The Proletariat, and Tody Castillo at The Continental Club with another great musician, Austin Collins. And, Dallas indie rockers The Deathray Davies play at Rudyard’s.

On Wedneday, Chris Knudson plays The Continental Club. You may have read about him in the August issue of Envy Magazine or in last week’s Houston Press. Come out and see what all the fuss is about.

On Thursday (8.31.06) at The Proletariat, the most interesting band I saw at SXSW this year — Gil Mantera’s Party Dream — will play with Houston’s Low.Z. This is one show not to miss! Come with an open mind and you’ll enjoy it. It’s an early show (6-9pm). Then, stick around for Rockbox! from 9pm-2am, featuring Oxy Cottontail, Stiletto, Gracie Chavez, & Mai.

Biz Markie plays The Cotton Exchange (202 Travis, downtown) on Friday. I have a soft spot for Biz Markie’s “Pickin’ Boogers” — funny stuff. Also on Friday is Don Caballero, Zombi, and Bring Back The Guns at Walter’s.

You left off the Helios 10th Anniversary Party this Saturday, Sept. 2nd with Million Year Dance and others. Hard choices to make this Saturday for sure.
