Here’s what happening around Houston this week.

Tonight, Monday 8.21.06, Tody Castillo plays a set from 8-10pm at Onion Creek. Also tonight, The Mighty Orq plays around 9pm at The Big Easy (5731 Kirby Dr.). Then head over to The Proletariat for D2 with Cool Tapes and Mr. Castillo.

On Tuesday night, The McKay Brothers — whose new CD, Cold Beer and Hot Tamales, is a good listen — play at the Mucky Duck. Also, Arthur Yoria plays at Helios at 9pm with Andy Zipf.

On Wednesday, John Evans Band and Southern Backtones play The Continental Club. This will be an excellent show so make plans to come out and show your support for these great local musicians.

On Friday, John Evans and Lanky play at Cosmos. This Saturday is the Reggae Sunsplash, which features UB40, Toots & The Maytals, Maxi Priest, and Third World at The Woodlands. Also on Saturday, The Watermarks play with The Warning and Deep Ella at The Proletariat.

On Sunday, Lazlo Hollyfeld (who gets the movie reference?) plays Super Happy Fun Land and Mike Jones, Slim Thug, and Paul Wall perform at Reliant Park.
