Undiscovered band contest — Houston bands enter now!

April 8th, 2006 · No Comments

Wind-Up Records, 20th Century Fox, and MySpace.com are hosting an “undiscovered band contest” for the upcoming movie, John Tucker Must Die. The grand prize winner’s song will be eligible for inclusion in both the movie and soundtrack. The contest began on April 6th.

Unsigned artists (hey, Houston bands — this means you!) will have a shot at getting their music heard by submitting their music on MySpace.com. The winner will be chosen on May 26th by a panel of celebrity judges and music executives. Wind-up Records will award a $10,000 production budget to the winner for professional re-recording, mixing, and mastering of the winning song. The ten finalists will each win a Gibson electric guitar. The movie opens in theatres on July 28, 2006.

From April 6th until April 24th, unsigned bands can submit songs for consideration. From these initial submissions, 20 semi-finalists will be chosen by members of the MySpace staff. On May 1st, those 20 bands will rely on the support of their own fanbases, or MySpace “friends,” to determine the top 10 finalists who will be selected on May 19th. Winners will be announced May 26th.

Interested musicians should visit the John Tucker Must Die Undiscovered Band contest page on MySpace (www.myspace.com/johntucker).

Bands appearing on the film’s soundtrack include Stefy, The All-American Rejects, Nada Surf, Ben Lee, OK Go, People In Planes, and Motion City Soundtrack. The soundtrack will be released by Wind-up Records on July 18, 2006.
