Houston Calling

Fort Worth is a Wall of Sound

April 6th, 2006 · No Comments

Eventually, maybe Houston’s music scene will be deemed strong enough to merit a big festival like the Wall of Sound Festival, which is in Fort Worth this weekend (April 8-9, 2006).

Make with the clicky, as they say, to find out more information. The line-up is unreal…

The site says this about the fest:

In a continued effort to support, develop and expose new talent in today’s overly saturated radio-rock and dull music scene, Spune created Wall Of Sound Festival to serve as a meeting place for indie-pop fans in Dallas/Ft.Worth, Texas and throughout the Midwest. We desire to shed new light and exposure for local and regional unsigned bands by giving them the opportunity to be showcased along with higher profile national artists on the same stage. We hope to bring a respected independent music and arts culture to the city of Fort Worth by producing a quality and innovative pop music festival.

For the performers, it’s a promotional platform designed to generate awareness and offer an attentive audience of like-minded music fans. For the attendees, it’s a unique social gathering amongst friendly fans and lovers of similar musical tastes who can, for one day, break away from corporate America music and media standards and breath-in 14 hours of fresh air!

The festival features 88 local, regional and national artists and is held inside The Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday April 8 and Sunday April 9. LOW, The New Year, Okkervil River, Starlight Mints, Starflyer 59 and The Lassie Foundation have confirmed to headline this year’s festival!

Thanks to www.gorillavsbear.net for making me aware of it.

Any Houston bands on the bill? I haven’t heard anything, but I’ve been sick and haven’t been paying attention. I do know that two of my favorite Austin bands — The Octopus Project and What Made Milwaukee Famous — are playing. Let me know if any any Houston bands are in on the action…
