Houston Calling

The week in Houston rock

February 15th, 2006 · No Comments

Tonight (Wednesday, 2.15.06), Vibe Committee and Miss Leslie and Her Juke Jointers play the Continental Club. Be sure to come out and show your support. This will be a good show of local music.

Also tonight, local indie rockers The Dimes (they’re awesome!) play at White Swan (4419 Navigation Blvd.) with Push To Talk, Like-Whatever, and Over Sea Under Stone (also awesome).

Lanky and Eleisha Eagle play at Brasil on Thursday night. Also on Thurday, Jucifer plays with Hell City Kings at Rudyards.

On Friday night, Dalek and Meat Beat Manifesto play at the Engine Room. Surely you’ve heard of MBM, but Dalek’s 2005 release, Absence, which mixes politics and a social conscience with the band’s “industrial hip-hop,” was hailed by some critics as one of the best albums of last year. It’s definitely worth checking out. Be sure to get to the show early tyo catch Dalek live — it’s sure to be a great show.

On Saturday night, Sharks and Sailors play The Proletariat with Record Hop and Woozyhelmet. The shows starts at 9 p.m. Be sure to pick up their new EP at the show.

Also on Saturday, The Linus Pauling Quarter and The Jonx play at Rudyards.

On Sunday evening (2.26.06) is the Eye Captain! benefit for local drummer Richard Cholakian, who was injured late last year with a wire brush to the eye (ouch!). The benefit is at Sam’s Pub on Richmond Ave., and features local experimental rockers Peaches & Cream (6 p.m.), Zenteno (7:30 p.m.), Lazy (9 p.m.), Drop Trio (10:30), and Rich’s Eye-Sore (midnight).
