Bringing Back the Big Easy will be a daylong event that evokes the sights, sounds, tastes and feel of New Orleans to benefit the artists, musicians and other neighbors stricken by Hurricane Katrina. Centrally located near the George R. Brown Convention Center, on St. Emmanuel between Leeland and Clay, the Meridian and its adjacent lot will provide a little section of festive atmosphere of the French Quarter in downtown Houston.

Jazz, Blues and Zydeco music will fill the air from indoor and outdoor stages. In the true spirit of the Quarter, these musical traditions will be joined by an eclectic line-up that ranges from Indie-rock to Punk to World Fusion and everything in between. A few of these include: The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rockin’ Dopsie, Arthur Yoria, and Electric Frankenstein. There will be an unbelievable line of over 20 DJ’s gathered by 7002.com dropping beats throughout the venue as well, including the 10-year anniversary of Tha Purrin’ Lion Sound Flex Crew.

District 7 Grill will be preparing muffalattas; King Biscuit is fixin’ some red beans and rice; St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin is cookin’ up some boudin and gumbo; and all this can be topped off with some bananas foster and bread pudding from the Lagniappe Grill. Houston Art Car Klub will host an auction featuring art pieces from across the country, sports memorabilia, gift packages and more. This silent auction will take place between noon and 7 P.M.
