This Sunday (9.18.05), there will be a musical gathering at The Meridian to honor local musician Tim McGlashen.

“A loss, a struggle, a celebration,” was the way Buddhacrush described their last CD (Change Reaction) due to the death of former drummer, Joe Jackson, and the way the band progressed through that ordeal. Now it is how Buddhacrush describes an evening to honor the passing of their lead singer, Tim McGlashen. Tim’s death has shaken the local music community…He died on Tuesday, July 12 of a sudden illness. He was only 49.
McGlashen’s musical career began in Nacogdoches while attending Stephen F. Austin where he met Harry Ochsenbein, Jim Ed Hodge, and Mike Manning. The Zealots became a musical force to reckon with opening for national acts such as Santana, the Cure, Modern English, Bryan Adams, Jeff Beck, and Kings X. After the Zealots disbanded in 1998, McGlashen’s next endeavor, the Buddhacrush, has been a mainstay in the Houston scene for a number of years. The Buddhacrush’s music has been described as a jazzy funk rock with a great horn section. “His whole life was about living to the fullest and helping others,” says Mary Lee, the band’s manager. “Both groups are honored to showcase Tim’s musical legacy.”
The evening of Sunday, September 18 will bring together The Zealots for the first time in seven years. Zealot member Robert Woodrich describes the event as “a fitting tribute to our brother.” It will also mark the last performance from the Buddhacrush. Buddhacrush drummer Danny Lee said, “Performing on the 18th will be bittersweet. Celebrating the music of Tim and his life and yet, ending that chapter of my life will be hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
This incredible night of music will take place at The Meridian on Sunday, September 18. The Zealots will take the stage at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Buddhacrush with various guest vocalists. Also performing will be Norma Zenteno, Drop Trio, and Orange Is In.
