Bringing Back the Big Easy (benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims)

September 4th, 2005 · No Comments

Mark your calendars for this upcoming event.

Hurricane Katrina Relief Benefit

On October 8th, Houston will continue its help to bring back the Big Easy in a day-long, multi-stage fundraiser for the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. The parking lot of The Meridian will be fenced off for the event with a main stage featuring entertainers from New Orleans and art cars from all across America.

In addition, some of the best-loved clubs and restaurants of the Crescent City will be represented with staff from New Orleans. Houston Art Car Club and Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts will host an art auction. The Red Room of The Meridian will have an alternative music stage and top DJs will take over the Blue Room.

The Meridian is working with people from Houston’s arts and media communities to make this a huge event for charity. If you want to volunteer for a committee, please email bob@meridianhouston.com.

I saw on the local news that Houston musicians have been lending support to evacuees of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region. Specifically, thanks goes to Slim Thug and Bun B for taking the time to volunteer and give their time to the kids at the George R. Brown Convention Center this weekend.

If anyone knows of any planned music events that will help support the evacuees, please let me know.
