Houston Calling

The week in Houston rock

July 6th, 2005 · No Comments

Tonight (Wednesday, 7.6.05), be sure to catch Sound + Vision, featuring Flowers to Hide @ Clark’s (314 Mai St., downtown). You can also see Heist at Hand as they play with Philosophers, Ari Ari, The Walls You’ve Built, and Gone Be The Tyrans @ Fat Cat’s (Washington Ave).

Thursday night is the Texas Metal Fest, which features a ton of rock acts — Six Feet Under, Malevolent Creation, Will to Live, Origin, Images of Violence, Insidious Discrepancy, Nervewreck, & Incisor @ The Engine Room (downtown).

On Friday, you can see Tody Castillo at the Continental Club with Scattered Pages. This should be a great show.

On Saturday, Matt Hammon (who is not going to tour with Bob Mould, but who did play drums on his new album!) plays at The Well with Paige Lewis and Paul Michaels. The Well is located at 10234 Westheimer @ Steagler, 1 block inside Beltway 8. All ages. $5 cover. Show starts at 7 p.m.

Or, for the less acoustically inclined — and in celebration of Pink Floyd reforming for Live 8 — go see Us and Them at Fitzgerald’s (on White Oak in the Heights).

I recently ran into a long-time Houston musician (to be named later). He’s got some interesting stories and was in one of Houston’s first punk bands. I hope to recant his tales here in the near future. A CD of the band’s early demos may see the light of the day soon. That’s all I can say for now.

Also, don’t forget to cast your vote in the Houston Press music awards: www.houstonpress.com.
