Houston Calling

The week in Houston rock

May 9th, 2005 · No Comments

My favorite local punk act, Gun Crazy, is playing at Walter’s on Washington (across from Mary Jane’s/Fat Cat’s) on Wednesday night (5.11.05).

Local musician John Evans will play a rare acoustic solo set at Mucky Duck this Thursday (5.12.05) at 8:30. Be sure to get there early.

Saturday is Cameron Dezen’s CD release show at The Houston Vineyard (1035 E. 11th in the Heights). Paul Michael opens. Her new album, Love+Rescue, is great. More info here. Fans of The Damnwells may have a surprise in store at the show.

Also, Caribou is playing at Fat Cat’s this Thursday night. This will be a good show. Check back very soon for an interview with Caribou’s Dan Snaith.

Also, next weekend (5.21.05) is the Rockin’ For Rise benefit show, which features a lot of local bands, including Southern Backtones, Camino, Michael Haaga, Prognosis, Silverleaf, and The Hunger. It’s also one of (if not the) last change to see Absolute Pistol live before they move to Phoenix. The show is at The Meridian. Rockin for Rise is an annual benefit concert — 100% of the proceeds go to The Rise School of Houston. There are more than 20 bands on two stages, and door prizes. All ages are welcome. Tickets are $20 presale and $25 at the door. See schedule here.
