Houston Calling

Weekend in Houston rock

February 11th, 2005 · No Comments

There are a lot of good shows in the Houston area this weekend. I have listed a few bands that I recommend checking out.

Tonight (Friday, 2.11.05), check out Arthur Yoria [website] (w/ band) at Helio’s around 9:30 (Lazlo and Elman are also on the bill). You could also go downtown to see Tody Castillo [website] play at St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin. For those wanting a bit more rock, I suggest catching The Jonx (with Dead Roses, God’s Temple of Family Deliverance, and Dum Dum Crew) at Rudyard’s.

On Saturday, it again depends on your mood. The Methods [website] are playing at Helios. If you haven’t seen these guys, you’re missing out. Very Radiohead-y, but a bit more upbeat. Also, MeoWcifer [website] is playing with Rogue Wave [website] and Two Gallants [website] at Fat Cat’s. I am not sure if you’ve heard Rogue Wave’s cover of U2’s “Seconds” yet, but it’s a great tune. I came across it on iTunes — definitely worth the dollar.

Also on Saturday, The John Sparrow [website] plays at Rudyard’s with Sean Reefer and the Resin Valley Boys and The Slurpees. This will also be a great show.

Your call…

Have you heard about The Skyline Network? [website] I just came across it today. Kind of like The Onion of Houston. Be sure to check out the controversy on the site’s message board.

Remember to mark your calendars for Saturday, February 26th — Tody Castillo CD release show at Rudyard’s. Scattered Pages opens the show. This will be a good show. More information on Castillo’s new CD coming soon.
