Houston Calling

The week in Houston rock

January 24th, 2005 · No Comments

This Tuesday night (1.25.05) is a benefit for the Star of Hope mission. The show features Billy Joe Shaver, The Weary Boys, and Carolyn Wonderland at Last Concert Cafe.

Wednesday night marks the return of MeoWcifer [website]at Rudyard’s, with local musician Tody Castillo [website], and NYC’s Blank Stares. The show starts around 10 p.m.

Tody Castillo, whose new album will be available in February, also plays Friday night downtown at St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin [website]. There is no cover for this show, which starts at 10 p.m. If you haven’t yet checked out Tody Castillo’s music, you’re missing out. Be sure to check out his shows.

Drop Trio [website] is playing a free show out at Port City Java in The Woodlands (3091 College Park Drive) on Friday. The band also plays Saturday night at Helio’s.

Knowing my affinity for Operation:Mindcrime, I was notifed of Mindcrime [website], a Queensryche tribute band, playing on Saturday night at the Forgetaboutit Club (Jones Rd. @ Grant Rd.). Victim is also on the bill.

If I missed your band, please email me and let me know when and where you’re playing.

Those fortunate enough to get into the Earlimart/Pedro the Lion show Sunday at Fat Cat’s were treated to excellent sets by both bands. Earlimart was exceptional live (as I knew they would be), and Pedro the Lion was much better than the last time I saw them live.

Hopefully both bands will be back in Houston soon.
