Tody Castillo plays live tonight, Friday 4.9.04 @ Rudyard’s. Show starts at 10 p.m. (w/ King Cole and Mando Saenz)

It’s Funk Jazz Friday at Brasil, featuring Drop Trio. If you haven’t yet seen this band perform, you must check them out. Afterwards, get their CD and go to their website and listen to some of their past shows.

Saturday night finds Tody Castillo downtown at Flying Saucer bar. Show starts at 10 p.m.

On Sunday, at The Proletariat (903 Richmond), it’s the last Houston show for Arthur Yoria before he starts his nationwide tour. The show starts at 9 p.m. This is going to be a solo acoustic/electric/drum machine/sampler set. Also performing are Lanky (from New Jersey) and Tody Castillo. Cover is a mere $3 and Shiner is only $1.

Fitz’s hosts You Ain’t Punk 2004, featuring Pride Kills (as Minor Threat), Lluvia Dreams (as Joan Jett), The Living Dolls (as Black Flag), Crash Hall Surprise (as face to face), Ballistics (as Beastie Boys), Incisor (as The Misfits), The Hates (as The Ramones), Last Minute Fix (as Sick Of It All), & Second Society (as Aus Rotten). This will be one for the books. I am sure it’s going to be a great show. I have some friends in Chicago who do this type of show every year for Halloween. Always a good idea.

Also, tonight is the Moses Guest DVD release party/show downtown at Last Concert Cafe. This will be a good time.

My favs The Flametrick Subs play with Zombilly at Walter’s on Washington.

DJ Leon Lamont w/ The Invincible Czars at Super Happy Fun Land
Injected, Upside, and The Feds at Fat Cat’s
Jimmie Vaughan @ Houston City Live (at Northwest Mall)
Stone Coyotes play The Continental Club
Setback, Jarm, My Own I, Infinity’s Twin, Absolute Ellipsis, and The Lucky South all play tonight at Engine Room

The Cameron Dezen Band perform at Helios. This should be good. As an aside, Cameron’s brother’s band, The Damnwells, just released their major label debut, Bastards of the Beat, on Epic Records. This is an awesome album and one that everyone should check out. Visit their website. Simply an amazing band.

Sunday, 4.11.04

Two of the better “metal” bands to come out in a while, The Darkness and The Wildhearts, play at the Verizon Wireless Theater just in time for Easter. This show was moved from Engine Room after tickets soldout in minutes. It should be interesting (and really packed).

The One A.M. Radio, The Blue Hour, and The Funeral March play at Super Happy Fun Land

Hands Up Houston brings Liars to town with The Get Hustle, Young People at Fat Cat’s (read a preview)

Rod Stewart brings his droll, trite, hackneyed self to Toyota Center on Sunday. Thousands of suburban face-lifts crack with anticipation. Let’s hope he doesn’t throw out a hip kicking a soccer ball. (And yes, I am sure Rod the Mod is in much better shape than I am. I just wanted to make fun of him since he hasn’t created anything of any relevance since the seventies.)

Tody and the Falcon perform at Onion Creek this Monday night, April 12th, at 9 p.m. This is a nice little bar/coffee house/restaurant in the Heights, just down from Fitz’s. It’s laid-back and the music’s nice. Be sure to come check it out.
