Houston Calling

Glenn Miller and more…

March 8th, 2004 · No Comments

Last night, I was lucky enough to witness (as least in name and talent level) one of the best jazz/swing bands out there–the Glenn Miller Orchestra. This was the third of three shows the band played in Houston this weekend. It also brings up one of the things I love about this city–that you can often find out about a show that in most large cities would be completely sold out and still go get tickets the night of the show. Doubtful that would happen in most places. Yeah, I know it can looked at both ways. Sue me.

Anyway, it was a stellar performance and one I will not forget. We were in the balcony but had a great view nonetheless. Each musician was incredible and many of them played multiple instruments. I highly suggest checking them out when you get the chance. You can see the Glenn Miller Orchestra’s website here.

Back to the rock:

Tonight finds Tody & The Falcon at Onion Creek Cafe in The Heights. For those who haven’t bothered to check this band or this place out, both are great. The cafe is right down the street from Fitz’s. Tody also plays Saturday, 3.14.04 downtown at the Flying Saucer Bar. That show starts at 10 p.m.

This Wednesday, 3.10.04, Sound Theory, are playing at The Proletariat (903 Richmond Ave.) at 9:30 p.m. Visit The Proletariat’s website for more information. Come out and show your support for this great new Houston band (former members of Beautiful Losers).
