Houston Calling

Who’s Crying Now? Probably the promoters…

Arrowfest is sure to give Lollapalooza a run for its money this summer. The war’s over, people are spending money again, and what better time to see huge outdoor festivals than Houston in the summer? Yeah right.

This morning, I saw an ad for Arrowfest 2003, featuring Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Survivor, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. The show here is Saturday, June 7, @ the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, if anyone cares.

Local shows of interest:

TONIGHT! Friday, 5.9.03 — WARP Records Tour featuring Prefuse 73, Boom Bip, Beans (of Anti-Pop Consortium), and A Grape Dope (John Herndon of Tortoise) @ SMOM, 5804 Canal St.
This is an all ages show.

Sunday, 5.11.03 The Blood Brothers, Akimbo, The Fight (UK) + clothing drive for the Houston Area Women’s Shelter @ Fat Cat’s, 4216 Washington

As I mentioned in a previous column, this Tuesday, 5.13.03, Fat Cat’s hosts Pedro the Lion, The Stratford 4, and Ester Drang.

Next Friday, 5.16.03, Defend the Ghetto, Coachwhips, The Ka-Nives, and x27 are at The Axiom, 2524 McKinney. The show starts @ 10 p.m.

The show I am most eagerly awaiting is Saturday, 5.17.03 @ Fat Cat’s–Explosions in the Sky, The Motion, and Lazarus are playing. This should be a GREAT show. If you haven’t heard Explosions in the Sky, do yourself a favor and pick up their CD.

Also on Saturday, Frox Noxon (an interview with the band will appear here in the future), play with Experimental Aircraft and History At Our Disposal @ The Axiom.
